As an outdoorsy person who is pulled in by every outdoor adventure there is but doesn't live in a place with access to a ton of wild spaces, I found myself buying gear that got used only a few times a year and otherwise collected dust in my closet. I kept feeling guilty about my consumption of materials and wishing there was a way to borrow / reduce my carbon footprint while at the same time enjoy my time outdoors. At the same time, how cool would it be to meet new people with similar interests while you're at it!

I wanted a way to create community through shared gear and experiences to solve this problem. For years, this was just an idea in my head with no easy way to make it real with my limited software experience - and then came the AI revolution. Prototyped over a weekend using Claude, deployed on Vercel and hosted on Supabase - here's my solution - Gear Share.
